I am deeply honoured to be part of this wonderful interview series. Thank you Julie, for all that you do in supporting and connecting nature writers here on Substack.
Many thanks to Kate for recommending Robbie Arnott’s work. I couldn’t find Flames at my library but I just binged his recent book, The Rain Heron — it’s marvelous.
Kate your writing is like fresh air on a humid sultry day… I loved your adventure and this “Walking here feels like glitter running through my veins, like lemonade popping in my stomach…” and this “We were a family gone wild, like a mob of kangaroos escaped from a nature sanctuary.
Dear Susie, thank you for reading and for your kind and thoughtful words here. It is so wonderful to meet other writers and readers of the natural world, I am so grateful to Julie. Also, I loved visiting your 'hill' and reading your lyrical descriptions -- I felt like I was there walking with you.
Thank you for this interview, it’s beautiful in its stories and feelings. I love Kate’s writing, honest and full of love. Also highly recommend Robbie Arnott, Limberlost is another great novel of his to look out for.

Robbie Arnott's writing is brilliant, I am so thrilled you are enjoying some of the best nature storytelling from our Island home, Tasmania.
Wonderful to have these images of family life and the natural world from Tasmania. Rigorous hiking with kids takes a special kind of grit!
I read that piece months ago and still think about it.

“When I write I begin with my heart.” Such memorable words to live by.

Bouncy feet.

Hungry ears.”
In fact every word… just beautiful!
