Your description of the meal in this one had my mouth watering. Such an interesting dynamic between mother and daughter unfolding here.

Wonderful chapter! I felt like I was right there in the room listening in on their conversation. I’m also now hungry! 😋

I feel there is so much written into this evocative chapter I wasn't expecting... the undertones of warmth despite so much lost life between mother and daughter, the food, I can almost catch the scent of saffron and cinnamon as I read and damn your dialogue is enviable Julie!

Great chapter, Julie! I wanted to jump immediately to the next...

So much hurt, so much not said between mother and daughter.

It's so good I'll forgive you for this sentence: "Grace still keeps, Only extra virgin olive oil from Italy, not from (...) Portugal, taped above her hotplate." 😜

😂 We buy our olive oil from Costco. (It’s Italian, though). I recognize the timing of these chapters isn’t ideal. Thanks for sticking with it.

Not at all, I’m not complaining! As much as I would enjoy binging on it, I actually appreciate the waiting in between chapters, just like old fashioned TV when you actually had to wait for the next episode 😊

Fabulous dialogue Julie. And feeling into sone of your own Italian roots perhaps? So much revealed in a simple meal between a mother and daughter.

“the piquant salty heat of Old Bay on steamed crabs takes her right back there” took me back as well. Broomes Island, I think it was? Thanks for the time trips and the intriguing story.

It’s so special. I didn’t grow up with it but I enjoy it now. Except crabs are sooooooo expensive now. 😞😱
